So this "John Hannah Professor of Geological Sciences and MSU alumnus" named Warren Wood wrote in to the State News about basically how the Spartan Marching Band is degrading women and playing irrelevant music, and that the Notre Dame Band is basically better. He claims the "games need to become more Spartan-centric." I think he needs to reassess what being a Spartan means and start supporting our traditions and not those of other colleges and universities.

I think this guy has it totally wrong. What do you think??
Agreed.
ReplyDeleteHe did bring up one pretty cool idea: having a groups of guys in "Spartan warrior costumes" come out on the field with the team. It might be a bit redundant with the cheer squad on the field, but I could see the crowd getting pretty pumped for that.

ReplyDeleteI suggest that MSU department of Geology change it’s ridiculous tradition of Paleontology research.
Clearly Notre Dame’s Environmental Geosciences program is a wider, more pleasing program that fits in line with their proud tradition.
Why can’t MSU’s Geology department focus on ancient Greek sediments instead of fossils?
What a missed opportunity.
Yo Warren, I'm really happy for you and Imma letcha finnish, but you should know that Reinout Willem van Bemmelen is the best geologist of all time!
ReplyDeleteWow. So nice to have members of your Alma Mater spit in the face of the band.
I'll say what needs to be said: Warren Wood clearly plays the clarinet. Go get a new reed, buddy, we're not hearing your squeakin no more!
ReplyDeleteshould I even post a dissenting comment? perhaps since I cannot relate as I've never played in SMB or any band, but it seems he just wants more a more dignified representation of his reputable school. I didn't read it as him hating on anyone.
ReplyDeleteas a proud SMB member, i can tell you that (according to professor madden, director of the SMB) that this guy is just a grumpy old man who doesnt know what he is talking about.
